PDF becomes an open standard

July 1, 2008
The International Organization for Standardization published the technical specifications for the Portable Document Format, essentially making the PDF filetype open source. The PDF remains a common format for the political pamphlet, and there is something thematically appropriate, as well as more convenient about the open source filetype.
Now other open source software – and freeware – can create PDFs natively, which makes access across populations of politically active individuals greater.
